Beringeria
is a journal for scientific communications in geosciences. In Beringeria
papers on all aspects of the geosciences will be published if their relevance
is explicit. Contributions to Beringeria should be monographs and
longer articles and, thus, normally exceed 25 printed pages. Shorter articles
can be accepted if the volume of a planned issue allows a further addition.
The journal is generally open to all authors. Authors from outside the
University of Würzburg will be requested to pay page charges at a rate
of 75% of the actual expense of publishing their papers. Manuscripts of
authors without financial support will be considered for publication under
special circumstances. Prospective authors should contact the Editorial
Board.
Rapid evaluation and publication of manuscripts has high priority for
Beringeria. The period of time between submission of the manuscript
and publication can be kept within six months and may be even shorter
for a well-prepared manuscript submitted on floppy disks. Language. Articles
in German or English are accepted for publication in Beringeria.
Abstract. Abstracts have to be in English and German. Additional
abstracts in other languages may be accepted. The abstracts should be
informative and concise, stating the results presented in the article
rather than describing its contents. New systematic or stratigraphic
names introduced in the article should be itemized in the abstract.
Keywords (index entries) should be provided immediately after the abstract
texts. Insert a square symbol in front of the keyword line.
Manuscript. Texts of articles should preferably be submitied
on a floppy disk if written using a word processing program. Texts written
in widely used word processing programs (e.g. MS-WinWord 6.0 or later
versions) can be submitted ready formatted (which reduces time for processing
and publication). Consult a recent issue of Beringeria and arrange
the typescript to conform with the typographic practices used therein.
Type-written texts should be typed with clear characters with an ample
left margin on one side of white, standard-sized (preferably A4), consecutively
numbered sheets of paper. Use double-spacing throughout. Do not break
words at the end of lines.
The manuscript should be arranged as follows: (l) Title of paper. (2)
Name(s) of author(s). (3) Bibliographic identifcation arranged as in
the following: STEPANEK, J. & GEYER,
G. 1989. Spurenfossilien aus dem Kulm (Unterkarbon) des Frankenwaldes.
- Beringeria l: 1-55, 8 text-figs., 3 tabs., 7 pls.; Würzburg.
(4) Abstract. (5) Name and address of author(s). (6) Main text, with
the approximate positions of figures and tables indicated at the margin.
(7) List of references. (8) Tables with captions. (9) Figure captions.
Use three or fewer grades of heading in the main text: (l) Lower case
roman 12 pt centered (double underlined in manuscript); (2) lower case
roman centered 10 pt (underlined in manuscript) and (3) lower case roman
10 pt left margin (normal headings in manuscript).
Do not build up space-consuming hierarchical pyramids of systematic
names within systematic descriptions. In synonymy lists, tabulate the
synonyms. The text for synonym citation should be arranged as follows:
1956 Angulithes triangularis MONTFORT
- KUMMEL, p. 454, Text-fig. 33/C; Pl. 25, Figs
1, 2; Pl. 26, Figs 1, 2.
There are no footnotes in Beringeria (except in tables). Di-gressive
material may be set as discrete paragraphs in smaller type. Generic
and specific names of fossils should be held in italics, names
of authors in SMALL CAPITALS.
Citations. Literature citations in the text should be given as
the author's surname followed by the year of publication with no comma
between. If specific pages are referred to, the page number(s) should
follow a colon inserted after the year (e.g. PENO
1990: 93). Joint authorship in citations and references should be indicated
by an umpersand (&). Entries in the references are to be listed alphabetically
in order of author's names in accordance with the following examples:
AX, P. 1984. Das Phylogenetische System. - 349
pp., 90 text-figs.; Stuttgart, New York (G. Fischer).
HUPE, P. 1953b. Classe des Trilobites. - In:
PIVETEAU, J. (ed.). Traite de Paléontologie 3:
44-246 [1-202], 140 text-figs.;. Paris (Masson et Cie).
KOBAYASHI, T. 1935. The Cambro-Ordovician Formations
and Faunas of South Chosen. Paleontology. Part III. Cambrian Faunas
of South Chosen with A Special Study on the Cambrian Trilobite Genera
and Families. - Journal of the Faculty of Science of the Imperial University
of Tokyo (II, Geology Mineralogy Geography Seismology) IV (2):
49-344, 33 text-figs., pls. I-XXIV; Tokyo.
ZAKHAROV, V. A. 1962. New Monotidae of Lower
Liassic from Okhotsk Sea coast and their stratigraphic importance. -
Akademiya Nauk SSSR, Sibirskoye Otdeleniye, Geologi i Geofisica 3:
23-32, 3 text-figs.; Novosibirsk. [In Russian].
We prefer that indications of text-figures, tables and plates are included
in the reference list, but regard this point as optional. The place
of publication, however, must be given. If there are several references
to any one author, the name should be repeated in each entry. Serial
titles should not be abbreviated.
Illustrations. All Illustrations must be marked with the author's
name and figure number. Figures are best planned to take up either the
entire width of the type area (162 mm) or the width of one column (78
mm). Plates should fill the space of a type area (162 x 242 mm) and
are not allowed to exceed this frame. They should only contain half-tone
illustrations. Please do not number items on the plates, but supply
the numbers on a separate sheet of paper. Photographs must be clear
and sharply contrasted. They should be printed on white paper with glossy
finish. If incident light is used for llumination, the light should
fall consistently from the upper left. For text-figures, avoid arrangements
that require blocking-out. If the background of an object is deleted,
make it black rather than white.
Tables. Type each table on a separate sheet of paper for type-setting,
or prepare originals for direct line-reproduction. If possible, tables
should be designed to fit vertically on the pages. lf a table is too
wide for one page, construct it to be placed on two facing pages. Fold-out
tables cannot be accepted.
Proofs and offprints. Authors will receive only page proofs and
are expected to read them carefully and to return them promptly to the
publisher. In the case of joint authorship, the proofs will normally
be sent to the author whose name appears first in the article-head.
Authors will be charged for changes made against the manuscript in proof.
Authors will not receive free offprints of their articles, but as many
offprints as desired may be ordered from the publisher on forms supplied
with the proofs. Only the run-on costs will be charged for offprints.
Submission. Manuscripts conforming with the above instructions
should be sent to:
Beringeria Editorial
Board
Freunde der Würzburger Geowissenschaften, Institute für Geologie und
Paläontologie
Pleicherwall l, D - 97070 Würzburg, Germany.
A complete copy of the text and a set of photocopied
illustrations should be included with the original.
